The Client was referred to NSLAC by a partnering agency. The Client was a mother who needed help with her divorce and untangling herself from an abusive relationship without disrupting the stability of her two children. She had taken major steps by moving out of her husband's apartment and searching for new housing that would allow her children to remain in their current school district. Despite having moved out, the Client was still entangled in a challenging housing situation with her husband. He had stopped paying rent, and the landlord filed an eviction case against them both. The Client’s husband refused to cooperate in finding a resolution to the case. If all demands of the eviction were not met, the expenses incurred and her eviction record would likely prevent the Client from securing quality housing, especially in a challenging rental market.
