The Client was a mother living with her partner and their young child. The Client’s partner abused alcohol and was physically abusive towards her and her child, making their home unsafe to live in. She reported the abuse to the police and sought family support to address the issue. Referred to NSLAC’s Domestic Violence Law Practice by a friend, the client sought legal aid to help her navigate obtaining the order of protection and addressing her concerns about parenting time. NSLAC’s Domestic Violence Attorney represented the client, working to get the abuser served and ultimately negotiating a mutual stay-away order that protected the client and her child from further harm. Additionally, NSLAC’s Domestic Violence Social Worker assisted the mother with referrals for counseling services, childcare, and housing. The Client found temporary housing with a friend in the area and began taking steps to rebuild a safe and productive life for herself and her child.
