Our Client faced persistent challenges with his landlord from the start of his tenancy. As a severely disabled adult living alone, the Client required a fully accessible unit that would accommodate his wheelchair use. However, upon moving in, the Client discovered that his unit fell far short of the ADA-compliant model he was initially shown. Without so much as a ramp to enter and exit, the Client found himself confined to his apartment for extended periods. The Client made continuous efforts to communicate with his building manager, urging for basic accommodations to be made to make the building a habitable space. Eventually, management retaliated and filed an eviction case against the Client. NSLAC stepped in and represented the Client in his eviction case and negotiated an early move-out date in exchange for the dismissal and sealing of the case. The Client is now living independently in an accessible apartment that meets his needs.
