Our Client moved out of her apartment in June of 2023 but had not received her $3,400 security deposit as of December 2023. The Client signed up for our Security Deposit clinic, where she was counseled by pro bono attorney Luke Groom of Latham & Watkins, who advised that she was entitled to the deposit under the Cook County Residential Landlord Tenant Ordinance. A demand letter was sent to the former landlord shortly thereafter and the Client received the full $3,400 due.
