Virtual CLE Training, Domestic Violence Intake Program

North Suburban Legal Aid is excited to offer a new opportunity for pro bono attorneys to provide crucial help to our Domestic Violence practice.  We’re looking for pro bono attorneys to assist our Domestic Violence practice by remotely conducting client intakes.  This will be a great opportunity for Illinois-licensed attorneys to help domestic violence survivors without taking on full representation.  Domestic violence/family law experience is appreciated but not required.

To prepare attorneys who are interested in helping with this project, a virtual training for CLE credit will be held on 5/17/23 at 1:00 pm.  Those interested can register via the following link:https://secure.lglforms.com/form_engine/s/_OHsJ010r-QsKs_1a0RVNA  The training, which is required to perform intakes, will also be recorded.  This will be a 100% remote opportunity.  Each intake takes approximately one hour, and we’re expecting each attorney to commit to five intakes per month, although there may be some flexibility in both scheduling and the number of cases.  All we ask is that the volunteer attorney conduct the intakes, although expanded involvement may be considered should an attorney have a particular interest in a case or client.  Please direct any interest and/or questions to probono@nslegalaid.org

This two-part training is designed to train lawyers without experience in immigration on naturalization law, screening for naturalization eligibility, and filling out the N-400 form. Part One will cover the eligibility requirements for naturalization, and Part Two will cover special considerations, the N-400 form and filing, and a practical exercise where attendees will be given a problem to work through and discuss with the presenter. Our goal is to provide pro bono attorneys with training so that they can conduct naturalization screenings in the community and help clients prepare their applications if they wish. The trainings will be recorded in the event people are unable to attend both. However, IL CLE credit will only be provided for live attendance. To register, please click the registration links above. CLE Event- March 16th at 7pm

Dear Pro-Bono Attorneys:

The Highland Park-Highwood Legal Aid Clinic is pleased to offer a training on Family Law on March 16, at 7pm, at the Firehouse Youth Center.

Family law is one of the highest areas of demand for legal services for low-income individuals, and there are many volunteer opportunities for our HPHLAC attorneys in this area as we respond to calls for help with family issues. This training session is intended for attorneys with little or no family law experience, and will cover some of the basics you will need to know in order to assist pro bono clients with family law issues other than divorce.

This 2-hour CLE class will be presented by Deborah Goldberg, a prominent practitioner of family law in Lake County. It will provide an overview of Illinois family law for a low-income clientele, with some focus on new family law statutes as well as issues that intersect with immigration law. The formal presentation will be followed by an opportunity for Q & A. You will receive 1 1/2 hours of CLE for this training.
