Pro Bono and CLE Opportunity: Short-Term Guardianship Clinic

In partnership with Partners for Our Communities in Palatine, NSLAC is pleased to offer a Short-Term Guardianship Clinic for guardians and their children on April 5th from 3 pm- 6 pm 

Short-term guardianships are a means for parents to ensure the care of their minor children upon a particular event occurring. For example, if a parent is traveling out of town, having a medical procedure, is detained/incarcerated, or simply unavailable for a specified duration of time. The advantage of short-term guardianships is that they do not require a court appearance to take effect.

As a pro bono attorney, you would meet with a parent or parents for up to one-hour to discuss short-term guardianship as a possible safety planning mechanism for their family. If they would like to proceed with getting a short-term guardianship for their child or children, you will help them fill out the Illinois Appointment of Short-Term Guardian form. Each child will need one form.

A virtual training was held live on Friday, March 29th, in case you missed it, you can find the recorded training HERE. This training is eligible for Illinois CLE credit.

Free Housing Legal Aid Consultations

In partnership with Partners for Our Communities, we are pleased to offer free housing legal aid consultations for renters with issues related to housing. Renters can schedule an appointment with an attorney appointment during one of the three-time slots each month. An attorney will offer free, confidential legal help to renters from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. Housing legal aid consultations will be available at two alternating locations:
