Volunteer Spotlight: Heather Ross

Heather Ross is a partner at Ross & Zuckerman, LLP, where she focuses on legal issues concerning alternative family options. As a passionate volunteer at the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic, Heather finds that working with housing clients provides a gratifying sense of purpose and reminds her of the direct impact lawyers can have on protecting a family’s basic necessities. Assisting clients with avoiding eviction, receiving security deposits back, and obtaining essential repairs after landlord neglect reminds her of the unfair systems that disproportionately affect those most at risk. She is grateful for the trust her clients place in her when it comes to navigating these barriers.

Heather notes that although some people might be surprised to find a legal aid clinic in the suburbs of the North Shore, its services are vital to the various communities it serves. She cites the number of clients the clinic serves as well as the breadth of educational programs they provide. Heather also places equal emphasis on the quality of the staff, who she says provide her and other volunteer attorneys with exemplary training and support. She concludes that the suburbs are fortunate to have such an excellent resource and that she is so glad to be a part of it.
