Our Client, a mother, made the journey with her family from Colombia. After crossing the border, she and her family turned themselves in to border patrol and made a claim for asylum, receiving parole until their case could be heard in court. After making the journey to the Chicago suburbs, the Client met with NSLAC’s Immigration Law Practice, recounting horrific experiences of violence against her family in Colombia, including abduction and rape. She described that despite seeking legal protection in her hometown, the Client’s pleas were ignored. Recognizing the need for a better life for her family, the Client embarked on the treacherous journey to the United States. NSLAC Immigration attorneys spent extensive time interviewing the Client and detailing the timeline of events. They reviewed the complex process of filing for asylum and the challenges specific to the Client's case. Unfortunately, asylum could not be guaranteed. NSLAC’s Immigration attorneys continue to work on this case, a process that will likely take months. While the Client continues to gather evidence to support her asylum claim, she is also focused on rebuilding her life and providing for her family.
