Our Client had been renting an apartment for over a decade. Before COVID, the Client had a well-paying job and never had difficulty paying his rent. However, in the spring of 2020, the Client fell ill with COVID, leading to COVID pneumonia and long-term health issues that prevented him from working. The Client depleted his savings and fell behind on rent, leading his landlord to file an eviction case. The Client was able to obtain rental assistance to cover the past-due rent and NSLAC was able to negotiate with the landlord to accept the rental assistance and dismiss the eviction case. NSLAC’s attorneys were also able to seal the eviction case, ensuring that it would not negatively impact the client's ability to secure housing in the future.
